Major League Player Tobacco Policy
From WikiLeague, the free baseball governance encyclopedia.
MLB Major League player tobacco policy. Restricts smokeless tobacco use in MLB venues (locker rooms, fields, etc.). Adopted progressively starting with new-player bans negotiated in the 2011 CBA and tightened in subsequent cycles.
Background
Tobacco bans for MLB players have been negotiated incrementally across CBA cycles since 2011 (when smokeless tobacco was banned for players entering the league for the first time). Several stadium municipalities (San Francisco, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York) imposed their own tobacco bans in MLB venues mid-2010s. This policy is the league-level operational document.
